Interschool Quantitative Biosciences Program (IQBP)
IQBP 401. Community Outreach. 0 Unit.
Scholars can fulfill credit toward the outreach requirement by volunteering with David's Challenge, a nonprofit 501c(3) organization created for the purpose of addressing the various social, educational and economic needs of children and young adults in Cuyahoga County. Options available are tutoring, computer game design, and/or web design. Alternatively, students may propose and execute an alternative plan for outreach to an underserved community, obtaining agreement of the community, of their PhD supervisor, and of the IQBP director. Volunteer activities are 1-2 hours per week over the course of the semester.
IQBP 402. Student-led Seminar Series. 0 Unit.
This course represents the weekly student-led seminar series requirement for the Interschool Quantitative Biosciences Program. On alternate weeks, select students will present their research or recent journal articles. Non-presenting students will produce either summaries of the material for a non-expert audience, or written evaluations of presentations. During the remaining weeks, faculty/staff/external guests will present on their field, research, techniques, or lead sessions on professional development topics such as grants or communication skills.
