Scholarship Retention

Case Western Reserve University scholarships are automatically renewed each semester, provided the student maintains undergraduate status and continuous full-time enrollment.  

Duration

Scholarship assistance is limited to eight semesters of full-time undergraduate study, based on enrollment at the end of the add/drop period for the fall and spring semesters.

A student who does a complete withdrawal during a semester still uses one semester of eligibility for the term of the withdrawal. The scholarship will be automatically reactivated when the student next enrolls, provided their leave of absence does not exceed one semester.

If a student completes their degree in fewer than eight semesters, the scholarship terminates upon graduation. However, in their final semester, a student may also request prorated scholarship support for part-time enrollment if full-time status is not required to graduate. To confirm their eligibility, students should contact their four-year advisor in Undergraduate Advising Support after registering for their final courses and have that confirmation provided to University Financial Aid.

Semesters spent in the Cooperative Education Program, the Practicum Program, or on an approved leave of absence do not count toward the eight-semester limit, as no scholarship would have been used.

Leave of Absence Policy

Students must request a one-semester leave of absence from Undergraduate Advising Support in advance of their leave. This process places the scholarship on "hold" for automatic reactivation upon the student’s return to CWRU at full-time status.

Reinstatement for leaves longer than one semester is not guaranteed and requires a formal request to Undergraduate Advising Support.

Scholarships terminate automatically upon transfer to another institution or permanent separation from the university. Students transferring back to the university may petition for reinstatement through Undergraduate Advising Support.
