Applicants for graduate degrees in history must submit transcripts from all previous undergraduate, graduate, and professional study; scores on the GRE or a comparable standardized test; three letters of recommendation; application essays; and a writing sample.

Program Requirements
The MA in History requires 30 credit hours of course work, including 9 credit hours of HSTY 651, carefully supervised work on a master’s thesis (a work of original research based on primary sources). No more than 3 of these credits can be taken in 300-level (advanced undergraduate) courses.
Ideally, each student will begin HSTY 651, supervised work on the MA thesis, during the spring semester of the first year; research and write the MA thesis during the fall of the second year, and complete the writing and defense of the MA thesis (while registering for 3 credit hours of HSTY 651) during the spring of the second year.
