Department of Operations

Weatherhead School of Management's Operations Department has a rich history as a center of education and scholarship—it was here that the world’s first doctorate in operations research was granted. The department teaches a unique combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer modeling to assist in decision making for complex organizational problems. Our specific focuses are supply chain management and the interface of operations and finance, but ancillary clusters of interest surround mathematical programming, stochastic optimization, computational finance, and scheduling. Areas of expertise also include outsourcing, the coordination of operations and finance, and the study of complex systems.

The hallmark program of the Operations Department is the Master of Supply Chain Management. This program attracts a diverse, international group of students to our classrooms, where the small teacher-student ratio ensures ample one-on-one student interaction with faculty who are among the very best researchers and instructors in the field. The program addresses the intrinsic complexity of supply chain organizations and the coordination of operational and financial decisions throughout the supply chain.
