Program Overview
The Master of Arts in Theater is one of two graduate-level theater programs offered by the Department of Theater. At its core, the MA is a scholarly degree which provides a broad educational framework in the history and literature of theater, but with the opportunity to specialize in an artistic or scholarly area of the student's choice. It aims to prepare the graduate with the skills necessary to work in the professional or academic theater in any number of roles, or for further education in a PhD program.

Program Requirements
Requirements for the degree include:
- A minimum of 30 hours of course work beyond the bachelor's degree
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for all coursework
- Successful completion of the thesis/project
The curriculum consists of 15 credit hours of comprehensive course work, 6 credit hours of specialized focus course work, and 9 credit hours of master’s project or thesis writing.
